Creating a Web-Based Activity at Filamentality http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/fil/

1. Click Start a New Topic: Entering your new topic starts a file so your work can be saved. That way you can return to it later to update your work. Fill out the Form and click Spin this Thing. The next time you you want to return to your site, you should click "Edit an Existing Page" to go to the site. MAKE SURE YOU RECORD YOUR ID AND PASSWORD AND KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE. THERE ISN'T ANY WAY TO RETRIEVE IT IF YOU FORGET IT.

2. After you register, you'll get a chance to edit your basic information. Next you'll get started by clicking on one of the items on the menu bar at the bottom of the page.

3. To get started click "Add Links".  Once you have added some links, you can edit them or create an online activity (Hotlist is the simplest option, but you can explore all the formats). In the Add Links stage of Filamentality, you'll collect and record links to Internet sites related to your topic.(Use some Search techniques to find the sites.)  The pool of links you gather here will form the basis of the Hotlist, Scrapbook, Hunt, Sampler, and/or WebQuest  you create later. Filamentality will prompt you to enter information into text boxes. Make sure you type each URL accurately.  You will also type the name of the link and a short description.Next you will click "Edit Links" in the menu at the bottom of the page to save your information.

4. In the Edit Link mode, you can now check to see if the links work. Click on each link. If you need to make changes (or check your links), you can use Edit Links. Just make your changes and click the menu item Edit Links at the bottom of the page. This will save any changes you have made. You might want to check corrected links once again.

5. Clicking anywhere on the menu will always save any information you've entered on that page.

6. After gathering links, you'll use those links to create an activity such as  a Hotlist or a Sampler. On the "Hotlist (or Sampler)" page, you can customize your Hotlist (Sampler) with your own title and introduction. You can even categorize links. When you have several links you may want to group the links you found into categories that will help your learners. You can organize your links with up to 5 categories. Just type the categoires into the boxes provided.Next you can fit your links into the categories.

7. After you customize your Hotlist (or Sampler), make sure you clikc "Hotlist" again and Filamentality builds it for you and puts it on the Web! You'll get a quick look at your page for proofing. From here, you can go back and change your Hotlist (or Sampler) or the links, or you can move on to another activity format (Scrapbook, Hunt, Sampler, or WebQuest). You can create several formats using the same links.

8. When you see the final format, you can register your new topic.

9. You can go back to your site to make changes at another time by clicking on "Return to an Existing Topic" when you go to the Filamentality site.

10 . You can add additional links, make changes or create additional formats (activities).

11. Now that you have created a Hotlist, Scrapbook, Treasure Hunt, Sampler, or WebQuest, you will find that these online activities include everything the learner will need on one Web page.

HAVE A GREAT TOUR!
