Materials: Postcards of French paintings, computer with WWW Access
Teacher: Ms. Huck
Aim: Quelle est l'histoire de cette peinture?
Objective: Students will be able to write a creative story in French about their postcard;
practice Regents composition structure; use the passé composé with grammatical accuracy;
use on-line resources to find further information about the artist and painting.
Motivation:
- Write the titles of the paintings of the board.
- Students try to match postcard to correct title.
- Develop a list of questions students should answer.(i.e. Qui sont les personnages?
Où sont-ils? Qu'est-ce qu'ils font?)
Development: Each student chooses a postcard and writes a story they imagine about the scene in the picture.
Medial Summary: Check compositions for spelling and grammar. How can we find more information about this painting?
Application: Search for specific information on the painting and artist using:
Suimmary: What did you find about your artist and painting? Which parts of your story do you believe
are probable? Why?
Homework: Write a short biography of the artist and include information you found about your painting.
Extension:
- Students could create a homepage or link to their class page about a specific
period of French art (i.e. Impressionism).
- Students could work in pairs to write a short cultural segment for a local television channel on a period of French art or their selected artist. Students role-play "broadcast" to the class.
