Aim:
Où mangeons-nous à Paris?

Objective:
Students will be able to read ads for restaurants and answer written comprehension questions; learn advanced vocabulary related to food and restaurants; review the arrondissements and monuments of Paris; write an advertisement in French for their own restaurant.

Motivation:

  1. Ask students to name the different types of eating establishments in France.
  2. Elicit type of information they would find in a restaurant guide (i.e. le nom du restaurant, l'arrondissement, l'adresse, le numero de telephone)

Development:
Review vocabulary words about dining. Choral repetition; clarify meaning of unfamiliar terms.

Medial Summary:
What do you expect to find on this web page? What kind of food do you think will be on the menus?

Application:
Search for specific information on task sheet using:

Summary:
Review answers on worksheet. Ask students to describe the photos of the brasseries. Which one was their favorite? Which one was closest to the Tour Eiffel? L'Opéra?

Homework:
Using the ads we saw today, write your own restaurant ad for this guide. Include all the categories we saw. Add this guide to your homepage.

Extension:

  1. Students could read each other's restaurant ads and orally compare them
  2. Students could create a list of questions based on all their guides to be used in other French classes at the school.
  3. Students could role-play in pairs a waiter and a customer interaction at a restaurant.
