My Native City

Aim: How do we write a descriptive composition about our native city.
Objective: Students will be able cluster information about their native city; identify adjectives to describe both good and bad points; discuss aspects of their native cities with classmates; search for tourist information on the Internet; write a cohesive composition.
Motivation:
- Show picture of NYC
- What city is this?
- Can you describe it?
- Where is it located on the map?
Development: Develop a word web "cluster" on the board with categories for population, places of interest, food, educational system, housing, etc. Elicit more categories from students.
Medial Summary: Start completing web from NY, ask students where they could
find the missing information.
Application: Search for specific information on native city using:
Summary: Students insert specific facts/data into cluster.
Homework: Write a descriptive 2 paragraph composition about your native city. Include good points and bad points.
Extension:
- Students edit their papers after completing related grammar exercises.
- Students exchange papers, read and write two questions that they still have about their
classmate's native city. Classmate rewrites, including this information.
